myself an paul newton/paddy o/brian and others arrived from bielefeld early 1966 .What a shock to the system ,we had finally arrived into the real world of trucking.Up until then we only had a vague idea what trucking was all about.we all done the course and became qualified drag artists ha.ha.joke.It was a complete changeto the word soldiering .only there was very little soldiering going on.Eventually i got into the swing of things and became a unit driving instructor and went on a lot of drags and special assignments ,One was a long drag to baumholder close to the border with luxenburg to pick up 3 tanks british, and take them 21 miles to another railway station and then rtu senne, the job lasted 1 week ,can anyone remember that? that was a great week that was 1966/67 i dont remember exactly it was so long ago .Iam almost 66 years old now message to george brain i was in 36 coy motamb at that time.

Hi Sam,
Like a few more of the lads from 66/67 time,I too remember yourself and the other lads joining the unit. I wonder if you can recall any of the REME lads from that time,I am still in touch with about 20 of them as we now hold an annual reunion, which Alfie Birkhead attended this year.

I remember you Sam. I didn't arrive in Senne until March 67. There was yourself, Paul Newton, Chips Omahony, and Paddy Mullen. Plus of course a lot of other good old Irish lads. Sammy Kirkwood, Paddy Doyle (sadly no longer with us), Paddy leach, Kevin O'neil and numerouse others. Happy days. All the best. Alfie.

Hello ronald ,i was in Bielefeld from nov 62 /jan 66 ,iwas in 27 coy for 2 months and then got posted to 36 coy just across the camp .I dont remember alot about 27 coy beong in it such a short time except i dont think i liked it very well .36 coy was one of best i ever served with ,i had some brilliant attachments while i was there.I spent more time out of camp than i spent in it.seconded to umpteen different units all over germany ,i think the best was army skiing center a SILBERHUTTE in the harz mountains near the eastern border spent 5 months there doing duty amb and skiing/drinking no soldiering to speak of just having fun ,
