Your quite right again Bob, we have crossed paths but cant remember each other. I too was one of the founder members of the weight lifting club, the stairs to the small room above the kitchens was just inside the main entrance to the canteen. We started with improvised weights made from cans filled with concrete and that curved bench made for us in the REME workshops. Our idol to inspire to was Steve Reeves the body builder and film star, but sadly shortly afterwards I was courtmartialled and posted to 16 coy Wuppertal and never acheived the body I then required. Sad init, Cheers, Mick.

Right Bob, most of the names you mention I cant place, however I do keep remembering the faces of the blokes in the photos. Now Fred Judge was an Ex Boy like me from Bordon and we were great pals. He was the unit photographer, had a studio up in the attics above the cookhouse block, seemed to live on Blue Ribbon choclate bars, taught me how to ride a motorcycle when I got to be a section commander. His family were quite well off, he was running a Borgward Issabelle Combe which I borrowed once or twice, until he came into some money and he bought the brand new Opel Kapitan, which he used to race up and down the Autobarn near by with much pride and a little to much zeal. Speak to you all again soon, thats if anyone else is ready your page Bob. Cheers Mick.

Ill speak to you again about the blokes you mentioned. The black and white photos on the site are bringing the memories flooding back now, most of them good. Cheers Bob, Mick.

Hello Bob, Yes Im in regular contact with Brian Stent, I notice he said all the crews were reluctant to carry on after the fatility and after all these years I must apologise that my thoughts were always about my involvment and how the blokes fussed around me after my return to the convoy. Im ashamed to say its taken 55 years for me to be reminded that there were other people involved, most of all the chap himself and his other crew members and everybody else on the convoy. Regards Mick Gill.

I was on Motorcycle escort and witnessed the fatility, saw him going into the wheels. I stopped the convoy, reported the insident and was sent on ahead to warn the harbour party, I was accompanied by Walter the polish Corporal and shortly after crashed into each other, me ending up in a german catholic hospital for a few hours and later finished the detail in the back seat of the leading champ observing. A sad day indeed, Mick.
