Antar driver hero info

Hi,

In following up my post a few months back on tt driver hero Malcolm Bignall B.E.M., many thanks to all who responded with help. I found the location of his BEM medal and have since researched the event at Hurstbourne Tarrant through their local press and have visited the local pub and met the locals.

The contemporary press photo isn't available, only as a microfiche copy, which does show the scene but not in any clarity. Two questions, please. Anybody know if a photograph…

Hi  Mike.  I will forward photos when the new printer is installed.

Regarding the Antars -

Mark 1 had a ballast body and carried carried ballast blocks.

Mark 2 Antar was a Fifth Wheel Only.

Mark 3 & 3 A came out later.

The difference between the Mark 3 & Mark 3 A was you could put a ballast body on a Mark 3 and it became Mark 3 A with 12 ton of Ballast.

I would like a copy of the book if possible please. Thanks from John Guppy

Hi Mike,  I was with X1X Tank Transporter Sqn Bulford Camp in 1969-1972, C Troop,

Dummer Oldfield was the Troop S/Sgt Been on KAPE tour with the 45 Med Regt Ra, loaded with an M109 Howitzer. Once unhitched in School Play ground and forgot to put the brake on and instinct made me grab a hold of the towing bar to try and stop it, by the time the driver had jumped out and and put the brake on, it had rolled about the length of the Dyson and onto the spors field.  Also been on Drags with it, the most famous being Castle Martin.  Also moved  a Conquerer on a Sunday from War Museum London but using a Fifth Wheel. Will have to sort some photo's out.

All the Best in the project.

Cheers
