Who are the oldest members to post on the site. Jack Atherton, Mick Warner & Barry West were already at Ranby Camp when I arrived in late 1966. As was Vic Atkinson (I think) who I did my first drag with as no3, before he went to 23 Sqdn.

Any news about any old Ranbyites, especially old "A" troopers, George Keogh, Jack Perret, Scotty Mcbride, Alan Muncey etc would be appreciated.

Barney.

I arrived at Ranby in1966 as a recy mech in the worshop as green as grass.I was the first person to take aLeyland on the Castlemartin drag.Reading this page is bringing some creaking old memeries out in the open.
Anyone who remembers me from 19Sqn.I would love to hear from you.Dave Paul
Hiya Dave, nice to hear from you. The name rings a bell, but I can't bring the face to mind, any photos would help. I do remember "Birdy" Starling and Johnny Bindokas, and I'm in touch with (both REME) Ted Taylor (ex Sgt), also a Jim Sanderson. If you look on my photo page, especially the photo of the Officers and NCOs at Ranby, you will probably recognise a few more old faces.

All the best,

Barney.
Hi Barney, just thought I would tell you, I just introduced myself to whispering Jack who funny enough lives only about 15 miles away from me, cheers barney for telling me about him, I hope to meet up with him soon Keith Evans
Cheers Keith (or John) I bet Whistling (he never whispered ) Jack was chuffed to bits to meet you. I hope to get "down your way" myself one of these days. just got to convince "Madam" that the 24 hour journey would be worth it. Hope you and Jack told a few drag stories, and swallowed a couple of tinnies.

All the best,

Barney.
Hi John, just to say I came to Ranby in 1963 in to C troop,a few names that I remember are Brian Ellis, Steve Saunders.
Geordie Gilroy. I don't know if you are aware that there is a Reuion at Retford on the 13th of Sept this year. For more info phone= Mrs Maureen James, No. 01777 870961.Best of luck. Fred [Geordie] Brown.Sorry but I don't think it has let put the phone number. Not used to this modern stuff
You certainly are an "old duffer" Bill, anyone who was at Ranby qualifies. You'll remember Staff Francis (with affection no doubt?) If I recall correctly, wasn't Shagger the best shunter of a Dyson trailer that you ever saw. I think it was him some of us watched shunt one across the square to the workshops, he was still going up the gears as he made the turn around the guardroom!

Hiya Fred, another "Old Duffer" surfaces, must be a lot of us about. I remember Brian Ellis, who came back to 19 Sqn at Bulford in 1972. I believe he's in Australia now. I think we are away on the 13th Sept, but if not, I will try and make the reunion.

Hiya James, you really are one of the "old bugger's", you and Keith Evans (on the first page) probably know each other. What was the NDA (night out money) in those days? When I arrived in 1966 it was 30/- (£1.50 to you lot who only know decimal currency) and considering my pay was 6 guineas (£6.05p) a week, that was a fortune!

Barney.
Hi Barney, our camping out money was 5 pound a week and we usually picked it up at Houndslow post office in london, and normal pay was 48 shillings a week, and we thought we was rolling in it, cheers Keith Evans

Hi John
I arrived at Ranby in 1964 on transfer from the Black Watch and was in B tp. I left the army in 1969 and re-enlisted in 1974 and ended up in Bulford where in 1976 I was on KAPE Tour with Doc Halliday and on completion later became Jack Atherton's clerk when he was SSM and Paddy Mahon was OC.
Whn you read these replies, names from Ranby flood back such as Jock Johnstone, Strie Robertson, Papa Godfrey, Kenny Nunn, Geordie Tennant, Mick Egan (Got Colchester for 20 Ton taxi taking girls home on Castlemaritn drag) also many others who were there in the good old days.
